York Tap – Right on the platform of York Railway Station -former Victorian Refreshment Rooms – Art Deco big central bar with normally a huge choice of beer – which can be a bit of a gamble – ask or see whats pouring regularly on the day – great straight of the train or waiting for the next one.
The Maltings Tanners Moat– York Classic – a must visit – just the other side of the walls from the station – fantastic range that Shaun always keeps in tip top form – good food – look out for the toilet to the right of the main door.
The Trafalgar Bay Inn – Nunnery Lane - named after a horse not the Naval battle – Sam Smiths house with the normal eccentric rules of drinks offer – try a mild
Golden Ball – Cromwell Street – great Victorian street corner local formerly a Johns Smiths Tied house – CAMRA listed for its interior – choice of 4 quite, different rooms to sup in good range of Yorkshire beers
Ackhorne Martins Lane – best visited on a foggy winters nights – very Dicken’s- 18th Century pub down a cobbled lane off Micklegate – good range of cask beers
The Swan – Bishopgate Street – another great corner boozer – with another listed interior – have a drink in the lobby/corridor – good sizes beer garden and very close to Slip Inn.
Slip Inn – Clemonthorpe – Regular Pub of the Year – 2 bars including a great snug – always good beer with a Yorkshire focus
The Fox – bit of trek out of town – an Osset pub that’s was once the watering hall for the huge railway carriage works just over the back – biggest beer grade in York – again a range of interesting rooms – Bruce and Adam from “Time for a Brew’ podcast will often be found in here.
