Hart Inn, Sandsend, YO21 3SU – beside the East Row neck and coast road a splendid 2 and a bit mile walk from Whitby along the beach, reputation for food and has a nice outdoor seating area to the right of the pub – Green King but usually offer a Black Sheep as well (if you have walked you can catch the bus back to Whitby)
Arch & Abbey 2-4 Skinner Street, Whitby YO21 3AJ- recently opened crowd funded micropub, in a truly old fashioned ladies' dress shop – nice seating – some very nice cakes and good coffee also available if you fancy a beer break. (also featured in Episode 10) Great range of beers with a local slant.
Green Dragon Great bottle shop and small bar down Grape Lane just off the swing bridge – always an interesting range of 5-6 beers on draught and literally hundreds of bottle and cans – very intimate drinking space you will be sure to strike up conversation with your fellow drinkers.
Whitby Brewery and Tap - opened in 2013, the new brewery stands in the shadow of the ruins of Whitby Abbey on top of the cliffs and the 199 steps up from the Duke of York (you can cheat the
Whitby Tour bus will drop you off outside the Abbey) – recently expanded from the initial very small bar which now acts the bottle shop and servery – into a large courtyard with seating and drinking in the Barn which house most of the early brewery – some very fine cask beers always available. Pizza’s also available on busy days (also featured in Episode 10)
Abbey Wharf, Market Place, Whitby, YO22 4DD – extensive former Burberry Cloth factory with a multitude of seating options very nice terraces over-looking the harbour – 6 changing beers and this is actually a Grade II listed building – if the suns out it will be busy!
Black Horse 91 Church Street, YO22 4BH, fantastic little gem of a pub – especially the front snug – reputedly one of the oldest serving bars in UK – Punch tavern with usually 6 ales on – you can also but snuff here still as well – Historic Pub Interior listing
Other worth contenders
Duke of York deep in the old town and at the bottom of the 199 steps and a stagger from Fortune Kippers. The pub can apparently be traced back to the Doomsday Book great views of the harbour and some fine very large plates of food can be had – often very reasonable lobster dishes. (also featured in Episode 10)
Waiting Room, Whitby Station YO21 1YN, Whitby's first micropub right in the platform. No lager nor spirits, no jukeboxes nor TV. What pub states: The six-yards-square pub gets busy at times, so please do not be disappointed if you cannot even get in!

Endeavour 66 Church Street, YO22 4AS – a little away from the main action and bit more of a locals pub, named after Capt Cook’s 1st expedition ship – often folk/Irish music nights alongside Yorkshire Tapas – good range of beer constantly changing.
Jolly Sailors, St Anne’s Staith, YO21 3PW, close to swing bridge on the west side of the Harbour , usual Sam’s Smiths fayre – as the name suggests popular with the Harbour folk
The Plough Inn, Baxtergate YO21 1BW, Whitby’s other Sam’s pub on the pedestrianised shopping street, CAMRA Whitby was formed here though not serving Cask ale at the moment according to What Pub
